Bechtel and Westinghouse Electric Company have partnered to deliver the first AP1000 nuclear power reactors in Poland for our customer, the Polish Entity Polskie Elektrownie Jadrowe (PEJ). Bechtel will be the Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) contractor for the project. As the EPC, our responsibilities will include providing the design for the Turbine Island and Balance of Plant as well as the construction of the entire facility.

Position Summary

As a Mechanical Engineering Lead, you will support the Mechanical Engineering Group Supervisor in leading other Mechanical Engineers and Mechanical Designers who will prepare designs for Mechanical Systems to support the project. The successful candidate must have strong organizational and teamwork skills, proven problem-solving capabilities, and the desire to innovate designs. This position has technical responsibility for interpreting, organizing, and coordinating these assignments. This involves exploration of the subject area, the definition of the scope, and may involve the development of novel concepts, approaches, and solutions. The ideal candidate will have solid experience in system design and will be capable of developing design documents including piping and instrument diagrams and equipment data sheets that incorporate the applicable design. You will be interfacing and coordinating with other engineering disciplines and the client in developing the design. Additionally, the ideal candidate must have excellent communication skills (both verbal and written), can be the "face" of Bechtel, promoting our leadership, quality, and safety values, to external partners including vendors, construction companies, and other subcontractors.

Upon initial hire and onboarding, the position will require full-time presence in the Warsaw office. Part-time telework flexibility may be an option as the project progresses.

Responsibilities

• Provide direction and technical guidance to discipline work group and assist the management of discipline work process execution and assure technical adequacy in accordance with company, contract, and industry codes and standards.
• Assist in the building of an inclusive team environment where all are able and expected to contribute to the maximum of their capabilities. Provide leadership and mentoring to team members.
• Establish or assist in establishing and maintaining work plans to ensure schedules are met and stakeholder requirements are satisfied. Create and track actions, estimate hours, and update schedules.
• Devise innovative approaches to solving problems from a variety of detailed technical options and assess cost implications.
• Contribute directly to the cost-effective design of mechanical systems and equipment for the entire facility.
• Ensure compliance with flow sheet and safety requirements by detail design.
• Identify major technical uncertainties and present solution options for management decisions.
• Serve as an advisor for the analysis and solution of engineering problems and interpret drawings, verbal instructions, and applicable codes relevant to project requirements and the ability to articulate explanations.

Qualifications and Skills

Basic Qualifications

• Level l - BS degree in Mechanical Engineering, Nuclear Engineering, or Chemical Engineering from an accredited university or college with six (6) years of progressive related experience.
• Level ll - BS degree in Mechanical Engineering, Nuclear Engineering, or Chemical Engineering from an accredited university or college with nine (9) years of progressive related experience.
• Must be able to complete a pre-employment drug screen and background check.
• Must be authorized to live and work in country without sponsorship.

Minimum Qualifications

• Related experience includes, but is not limited to, experience in Piping and Instrument Diagram (P&ID) development, fluid system design, hydraulic, heat transfer, and thermodynamic calculations, and equipment specification and design development for waste processing, nuclear, refinery, power, or chemical process facilities.
• Knowledge of industry and regulatory guides, codes, and standards.
• Hands-on Microsoft office programs and other computer programs.
• Excellent oral and written communication, planning, and organizational skills.
• Broad knowledge of the application of mechanical engineering design principles.

Preferred Qualifications

• Knowledge of Bechtel Corporate guides and standards.
• Experience in power (nuclear) plant design.
• Experience in working with procedures meeting quality assurance programs such as ASME-NQA-1, MIL-Q-9858A, or ISO-9000.
• Previous Bechtel and/or DOD or DOE project experience.
